What is the Silverado Z71 Package?

Silverado 1500 with Z71

If you are watching a Chevrolet Silverado cruise down the street, you might have noticed some letting at the front of the truck right by the side view mirrors. The big bold Z71 lettering may be easy to spot, but the additions of this package might not be as easy to find. Here are the 2021 Silverado 1500 Z71 package details.

Let’s start with the different ways you can not order it:

  • With the 2.7L Turbo engine.
  • Max Trailering Package.
  • 22” wheels.
  • The Custom, Custom Trail Boss, or LT Trail Boss trims.
  • The High Country Delux package.

That leaves us with the Work Truck, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country that the Z71 package can be ordered with, additionally, the truck must be 4WD which is understandable when you consider what this package includes:

  • Off-road suspension.
  • Hill descent control.
  • Skid plates.
  • Heavy-duty air filter.

Those are the standard features that will be added to each of the 5 trims, there are also a couple of extra add-ins that will only be added at select trim levels, such as:

  • Hard badge [Work Truck, LT, RST, and LTZ]
  • Locking Differential [Work Truck, LT, and RST]
  • Dual Exhaust [LT, RST, and LTZ]
  • 2-speed transfer case [LT, RST, and LTZ]
  • 18” black wall tires [LT, RST, LTZ]
  • 18” silver-painted wheels [LT and RST]

Silverado 2500 with Z71 package

Silverado 2500

While the badging may read the same, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 has a slightly different take on the Z71 package. To begin with, the 2500 only offers 5 trims instead of the 1500’s 8. This means the Z71 package is technically available on more trims than the 1500, however, the Silverado 2500 Custom is still not eligible for the package.

Other similarities between the HD truck and the LD include having some features that are available to each trim, and some features that are only added to select trims. Standard features of this package include

  • Off-road suspension with off-road tuned twin tube Rancho shocks.
  • Hill descent control.
  • Skid plates (transfer case and oil pan).

Select features include:

  • 17” black wall tires [Work Truck and LT]
  • Black grille with Z71 logo [LT]
  • Chrome grille insert with Z71 logo [LTZ]
  • Z71 fender badge replaces 4x4 decals [Work Truck, LT, LTZ]

The 2500’s version of the Z71 package still requires that the truck be equipped with 4x4, the one restriction is that the package can not be ordered with pickup box delete.

Silverado 3500

The Silverado 3500 is again different from the other two trucks while maintaining the same badging. At the 3500 level, there are only 4 trims with Custom being dropped from the lineup. This means that you can get the Z71 package at every trim level. Again, the vehicle must be ordered as 4X4 to get the Z71 treatment.

Standard features include:

  • Off-road suspension with off-road-tuned twin tube Rancho shocks.
  • Hill descent control.
  • Skid plates (transfer case and oil pan).

Features specific to different trim levels include:

  • Z71 fender badge replaces 4x4 decals [Work Truck, LT, LTZ]
  • Black grille with Z71 logo [LT]
  • Chrome grille insert with Z71 logo [LTZ]

The LTZ package can not be ordered with either dual rear wheels or pickup box delete.
